Open Circle has always run retreats, where students gather for community-building activities without being distracted by social media or the outside world. However, this term’s retreat had to take place virtually; in light of this, we focused on the theme of being “offline” while online and engaging with others purposefully. Our retreat was three days of small group discussions, creative and meditative activities, journaling, silent hikes and community building. One member shared how they really “enjoyed how much the online retreat felt like a ‘real’ retreat. The sense of community was so wonderful.”
